SPRINGS PARK TRIBUTE EVENT On Sunday, June 8th, West Park Historical Society held our first major public event — a tribute to Puritas Springs Amusement Park (1898-1958), held in the 100th Bomb Group Rosenthal Room. The sound of carrousel music welcomed people to the exhibit, where there was lots to see: a large-scale model of the Puritas Springs main gate, displays of vintage photos, souvenirs, a slide show video with rare home movies of the park. The most popular feature was the big-screen simulation of a ride on the Cyclone roller coaster. Special guests at the event included Gooding and Andress family members (descendents of John E. Gooding, founder of Puritas Springs Park), "Safari Jane" Tetzlaff (wife of Jungle Larry), Joyce and Beverly Behrendt (whose family operated food concessions), and Ken Dombey, Jr. (son of skating rink organist, Ken Dombey). Attendees shared their fondest memories of Puritas Springs while the reunion of the Gooding and Andress families with park employees and friends, many who hadn't seen each other in fifty years, was especially heart-warming. We extend our gratitude to all who attended and those who worked to make this tribute such a memorable event. Trustees of West Park Historical Society |
